Watercolour artist, Alfred Memelink owned a prime property on the Petone waterfront. He contacted Homestead to be involved with a design and build. Alfred’s brief was to have an Art Gallery and Ice Cream parlour on the first level, his home on the second level and then on the 3rd level his Art Studio to maximise the incredible views. The 500m2, 3 level building was designed around the marine theme with port circle windows, waves of the ocean patterned in to the precast panels and a curved balustrade. This building is in the jaws of the southerly and hence the reason concrete was his definite choice.
From design stage and throughout the build project, the 'can do' attitude of the Homestead team together with an innovative and helpful approach, has been amazing to work with. The ability of the team to work around any challenges provided by the project and also building on a tight and exposed site on a busy arterial road has been admirable.
